Germany (?) around 1790
It’s a fan painted at distemper on kid’s skin. The scene is amongst the most classical ones : a courting in a bucolic environment. The feminine clothes, with that particular raising around the neckline and the sash around the waist so taken by men, they remind two little figures, published in Histoire du costume en occident op. cit. p.302, created by Gustave III of Sweden In 1778. The ivory sticks , silver damascened, have a similar manufacture in the "mother's love".
