The leaf is in silk and is painted in tempera. The scene depicts a shady terrace where the bullfighter embraces his family before entering the ring, visible in the background. The painter focuses on the physical details of the people and a natural still life composition in particular. Despite the black background, an interplay of light and shadow and the bright colours of specific details create the overall image of a warm and sunny summer day.
Symbols of the bullfight are shown on the back.
The black wooden sticks are sculpted and perforated with mother of pearl (the hand piece) and silver (the casing).
